The PDF document User- and Owner-Password

The standard security provided by Acobat PDF documents consists of two different passwords:

The "Owner"-Password (permission Password) allows to prevent PDF files from printing, editing (changing), selecting text and graphics, or adding/changing annotations and form fields.

The "User"-Password locks the document so the password is required to open and view the file.

If only the "Owner"-password is set, decryption is being done instantly, the decrypted file can be opened in any PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Acrobat Reader). But the applied document restrictions can not be changed without the Owner Password.
When should you use this PDF Encryption Setting?

If you want fine-tune the Security and Access Settings of the PDF to prevent the illegitimate opening of your document and/or if you want to avoid any unauthorized changes to guarantee the authenticity of the document.

Set the compatibility of the encrypted document:
Meta Data encryption: Open Password: Owner Password: Printing Options: Changes within the PDF: Copy Protection: If you are unhappy with these settings try the Basic- or the Advanced-Presettings.
